Possible Hierarchy for Prompts: Vocal Mands

The chart which follows provides a sequence of steps in fading prompts when shaping a mand in a student who uses a vocal response form. The chart provides only an example of the prompt fading procedures. In actual practice, the steps in fading prompts will be determined by the quality of the student response at each step. For some students, prompts may be able to be faded more quickly; for other students, repeatedly prompting responses will be necessary before attempting to reduce prompts.
